African countries are gradually getting on their feet by considering agriculture’s power, especially the youth, in supporting Small and Medium Enterprises in Agriculture.
In Rwanda, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has launched a project expected to last for the next five (5) years. The project aims to strategically enhance plans and increase investment to boost the agriculture sector in Rwanda, targeting small and medium enterprises.
According to AGRA’s Regional Head, Jean Jacques Mbonigaba Muhinda, the USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Mastercard Foundation are supporting AGRA’s 5-year strategy to double investment for SMEs in the agricultural sector through finance and resource mobilization.
What should be expected from this initiative? SMEs are encouraged to put in their best efforts as the AGRA project will equip them with the needed resources and financial assistance.
Another key focus will be to emphasize small and underfinanced informal SMEs owned by the youth and women in Rwanda.
In five years to come, stakeholders express they will be confident to boast of reducing the unemployment rate and seeing women and the youth actively engaged in agriculture for domestic and export consumption.
