Cape Farm Mapper version 2 has been retired and replaced with Cape Farm Mapper 3. This online application assists farmers in farm planning,
and environmental management by providing access to spatial information.

Cape Farm Mapper provides free online access to spatial databases and web services through its web-based mapping platform.
How To Use Cape Farm Mapper
This online tool is easier to use when you learn to use all the features in the version and that’s what you are about to learn in further reading. Let’s begin with the user interface.
1. User Interface
The user interface consists of the Map canvas, Navigation controls, and Action panels.
Map canvas: It allows you to control how to view your mapping.
Navigation controls: This toolbar contains the zoom-in and zoom-out, compass, GPS, and 3D scenes which allow you to view your farmland anyhow you want.
Action panels: The action panels contain Basemaps, Layers, Search, Navigation, Graphics, User Data, Measure, Map Export, Share, and Support features to carry out more functions.
2. 3D Scene Viewer
The 3D Scene Viewer in CFM allows you to:
- Obtain a unique perspective on the landscape from an angled aerial view.
- This three-dimensional display enhances your experience by providing a more lifelike and intuitive portrayal of the surroundings.
- This, in turn, facilitates a deeper comprehension and visualization of spatial relationships.
The 3D Scene View utilises:
- The Esri World Elevation service drapes the current basemap over a three-dimensional surface.
- The layers and graphics from the 2D map view are also draped over the surface.
This tool is a registered product of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture to assist farmers in mapping their farmlands.
