One farmer on Reddit reveals he no longer spends money on buying animal feed to sustain his farm animals. The Californian farmer explains how he has been cutting costs for the past two years.
The farmer stated how this idea came up when he first saw a pile of food waste from a warehouse ready to be taken to the waste site.
To his surprise, the food waste pile contained edible vegetables, fruits, and grains worth consuming. Already food waste is becoming a crisis and contributing largely to climate and weather changes due to Carbon emissions from food waste in landfills.
California passed SB 1383 law requiring business owners to find appropriate ways to recycle food waste. This law will reduce organic waste disposal by 75% by 2025.
Feeding farm animals with waste food is acceptable under the SB 1383 law and their products can be sold commercially.
