Farmers are struggling to control the infestation of fall armyworms due to their quick and persistent spread, and they are urgently looking for support from relevant stakeholders to stop the threatening invasion.
The fall armyworms continue to expand despite farmers’ best efforts to stop the spread of these damaging insects in their crops, which has left them deeply concerned and frustrated.
“I don’t know what to do anymore; I have tried to separate my crops, but the armyworms are still there,” a distraught farmer complained. Now, what can I do?
Farmers in the Upper East Region are not new to the problem of fall armyworm infestation. Since 2017, they have been working nonstop to find efficient solutions and substances to stop the spread of these persistent pests. In three districts, Builsa South, Nabdam, and Kassena Nankana Municipal, fall armyworm infestations have increased this crop season.
Alhaji Zachariah Fuseini, the Upper East Regional Director of Agriculture, has promised the affected districts and farmers the department’s steadfast assistance in their battle against the armyworms in response to the issue.
He declared that the government had sent the office chemicals to help farmers fight insects. Agriculturists are also aggressively instructing farmers on using these chemicals correctly on their farms and getting rid of pests properly.
Mr. Fuseini highlighted that because the government purchased the pesticides to aid Ghanaian farmers, they are entirely free of charge. He angrily cautioned anyone trying to sell the chemicals, including extension officers, that they would be arrested because they broke the agric department’s rules.
