Hydroponic Farming In Nigeria Challenges Faced By The Youth

Hydroponic Farming In Nigeria

Hydroponic Farming in Nigeria has many opportunities for the Nigerian youth; however, the challenges discourage them from venturing into the sector.

Oluwatosin Aretola is a 21-year-old Agriculture entrepreneur who grows vegetables using hydroponic farming.

First appearing on Premium Times, the 21-year-old agriculture enthusiast narrated how difficult it was for him to access land in Nigeria. Despite Nigeria’s agricultural potential, setting up a small-scale farming business is not easy.

Oluwatosin Aretola is the owner and founder of Agric Learner Hub, devoted to training young Nigerians how to grow green leafy vegetables using hydroponic farming methods.

The Agric Learner Hub has encountered challenges setting up and running a hydroponic farm in Nigeria.

Although the cost of setup and practice materials (nutrients, system components, seeds, etc.) is high, as a start-up, you receive value for your money. It’s a significant amount of money, especially given the rising cost of seeds.

Less rain is required for hydroponic farming, and the plants are grown according to a specific protocol for each vegetable crop. According to Mr. Aretola, hydroponic farmers in Nigeria face great challenges due to the country’s significant rains.
