Through the FAO Strategic Framework, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, nutrition, the environment, and a better life for all.

The Sustainable Cocoa Initiative (SCI) is implementing the project, Support to Cocoa Value Chain Development in Ghana. FAO Ghana is in charge of the project, which is overseen by Mr. James Tefft, Senior Economist, and Mr Yurdi Yasmi, FAO Representative for Ghana.

Task and responsibilities

Technical and Coordination Support for Sustainable Cocoa Initiative (SCI)

The core of this role revolves around providing technical and coordination assistance for the implementation and monitoring of the Sustainable Cocoa Initiative (SCI) in Ghana. With a focus on sustainable practices, the individual will contribute to the groundwork of transformation.

Driving Evidence Generation and Research Activities

The role extends to supporting the generation of evidence and research activities tied to establishing and implementing the Ghana Cocoa Monitor. This function ensures that actions are backed by insights and data, laying the foundation for informed decisions.

National Focal Point for SCI Implementation

As the national focal point for the SCI, the individual will lead the charge in terms of technical and coordination support for implementing the program within Ghana. This pivotal role aligns various efforts towards a common goal.

Fueling Annual Work Plan Activities

Contributing to the SCI’s annual work plan activities, the individual will play an active role in planning, executing, and assessing initiatives on the ground. This ensures that every step aligns with the grand vision.

Crafting Research and Evidence Generation Initiatives

From design to execution, the individual will contribute to shaping research and evidence-generation activities under the SCI. This helps build a solid knowledge base that drives sustainable cocoa practices forward.

Seeking Synergies with FAO Initiatives

Exploring opportunities for FAO involvement in ongoing actions under the SCI is a crucial task. This includes activities like disseminating national cocoa strategies and implementing tools for deforestation risk management. It’s about maximizing impact through collaboration.

Seamless Correspondence and Feedback Loop

Effective communication is at the heart of progress. The individual will coordinate correspondence with key stakeholders, including the European Union Delegation and the FAO Representation. By providing consistent updates, they’ll ensure everyone’s on the same page.

Orchestrating Communication Products

Job Requirements

  • University Degree (preferably a Master’s degree) in Agricultural Economics, Natural resource management or Economics, or other relevant disciplines with a combination of additional 5 years of relevant professional experience in the cocoa sector in Ghana.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in project coordination.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • National or Resident of Ghana.
