National Crop Scientist/Agronomist Job Opening At FAO

The Food and Agriculture Organization has opened a job vacancy for a National Crop Scientist/Agronomist, which aims at the FAO’s Global Programme on Green Development of Special Agricultural Products.

The project aims to strengthen smallholder farmers’ capacity for green production, sound agronomic practices in soybean cultivation, green processing and storage, and promoting soybean-based nutrition for improved household nutrition. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s Directorate of Crop Services.

Main Duties

  • Aid in educating beneficiaries and project partners about better soybean farming techniques and good agronomic practices.
  • Encourage training on group dynamics and cohesiveness for project participants and recipients.
  • Participate in selecting project partners and beneficiaries and the community involvement process.
  • Encourage the water users’ association to receive production, marketing, and money management training.
  • Create TORs, bills of quantities, and letters of agreement to engage service providers.
  • Support project operations and track development by the authorized work schedule.
  • Ensure the timely and efficient delivery of project supplies from the FAO to the intended recipients.
  • Make sure information is shared across project partners by coordinating the operations of the project workers and consultants.
  • Prepare project activity status reports for submission to FAO via the FAOR-Ghana.
  • Create the final project report (terminal report) following the FAO’s structure and criteria.
  • Carry out any additional tasks that may be necessary.

Qualification Requirements

  • A graduate degree in agriculture, agronomy, agribusiness, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of relevant project management experience, with at least 1 year of project management experience in emergency food security and livelihoods.
  • Working knowledge of English Ghanaian nationals or authorized residents of the nation.

Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of soybean value chains.
  • Project management skills.
  • Understanding of inputs credit schemes, matching grants, VSLAs, market-oriented Agriculture schemes, and water users associations.
  • Computer skills.
  • Communication skills.
  • Experience in managing smallholder producers.
