Woman keeps unopened Easter egg for 63 years

Hillion Fern, 13, didn't quickly consume her father Aubrey Daulman's Sharps Easter egg like other kids her age.

Because it was "too pretty to eat," she felt she had to save it. The chocolate egg has a package of toffees and chocolates with daffodil-shaped yellow frosting.

Hillion, a chocoholic, pays £80 a month for a refrigerated storage container to protect the Easter egg from melting after 63 years.

Hillion, a former wildlife trust worker, remembers receiving the egg in 1960 and vows to preserve it forever.

Despite moving away, she keeps the egg in Warwickshire. "I still remember the day I was given it," Hillion added. It was too lovely to consume.

"I thought, 'I'll keep it till Whitsun,' but I never ate it, then I thought, 'Oh, I'll keep it until Christmas,' but Christmas came and went.

"After that, I had to see how long I could last." She's resisted for 63 years and won't give in. "I'm impressed with my willpower because I've always loved chocolate," she said.

"The egg I wanted to retain was exceptional and became too precious to eat. I paid to store the egg to prevent melting. I want to keep it immaculate.

I used to visit it in Warwickshire, but I moved to Wales to be closer to my daughter. "The egg is still intact and all the chocolates and toffees are still inside,

but the sugar flowers are going brown. "I couldn't eat it even if I wanted to, but it's part of the family now and I'll keep it forever."
